Greater Care and Quality in EFP Land Clearing with New Komatsu Equipment
Hey, we got a new piece of equipment that will help us help you! This month, we took delivery of a Komatsu XT445L-5 with a 500 Southstar Processor head which makes forest, timber and clearing faster, cleaner and easier. This means that not only can we make quicker work of your tree harvesting and replanting projects, but we can be more environmentally friendly by not disrupting the land underneath the trees, preserving the soil and landscape.
The Komatsu XT445L-5 is technically called a “tracked feller buncher” because it excels in challenging forestry tasks, like the kind of work we do at Environmental Forest Products. We need machines to get to hard-to-reach areas, sometimes around water, and make sure that the equipment is as safe as it is efficient. This tree-clearing machinery – which can handle both small and large trees in both residential properties and larger woodlands – is not only more fuel efficient than older equipment but also operates with reduced noise levels – two big pluses for EFP. In particular, modern equipment simply consumes less fuel compared to older models, resulting in reduced operating costs and carbon emissions. Further, we are better able to traverse and navigate diverse terrains and have fewer pieces of machinery on our clients properties. In short, the Komatsu is a “win-win” for both EFP and our customers.
Our new Komatsu XT445L-5 also comes with multiple attachments. One appendage that we purchased is called a “500 Southstar Processor head” which holds in place each tree and cuts the tree at the base, close to the ground . This actually helps dramatically – the process of cutting is precise and efficient (think: “few boots on the ground”). We also like that we’re minimizing waste in the harvesting process and, once more, not disturbing the area around the selected trees to be removed and replanted. Another benefit of having multiple attachments with a single Komatsu machine is this: it allows us to have only one machine in the field, keeping costs down that we’d otherwise have to pass on to our customers. Fewer machines = fewer operators = lower costs = customer savings!
